SAX First Light

Cyg X-1, observed on June 24 1996 by the SAX MECS2. The very bright central source is Cyg X-1. The two sources at the edge of the image are two calibration sources. The image is integrated in the whole 1-10 keV energy band. More information about LECS first light is available on the ESTEC LECS Web pages.

Cyg X-1, observed on June 22 1996 by the SAX HPGSPC. The light curve is accumulated in the whole 5-120 keV energy band. The saw teeth profile is produced by the rocking collimators. Note that the on source light curve shows larger variability than the off source, background light curve.

Cyg X-1, observed on June 22 1996 by the SAX PDS. The light curve shows the counts detected by the phoswitch 0 in the whole 15-300 keV energy band. The saw teeth profile is produced by the rocking collimators. Note that the on source light curve shows larger variability than the off source, background light curve.

Cyg X-1, observed on June 24 1996 by the SAX WFC. The field plotted in this preliminary uncleaned picture covers a region of about 40x40 degrees. Cyg X-1 is the bright white dot at the center. The two white dots on the lower right corner are other two sources in the Cygnus region (the source just to the lower right of the center is Cyg X-3).
