SAXDAS Installation Guide

SAXDAS can be installed on DEC Unix 4.0e, Solaris 2.8, HP-UX, and LINUX Red Hat 7.0 operating systems.

SAXDAS 2.3.1 is now available via anonymous ftp from SAX SDC ftp server and the HEASARC mirror

SAXDAS has been successfully compiled using egcs-1.1.2. LEMAT requieres GNU make-3.77.

SAXDAS must be installed into a preexisting working installation of ftools 5.1. It requires tcltk (several programs) and perl (1 program), which are, in any case, already requiered by ftools.

the SAXLE(ME,PD,HP)caldb_x.x.x.tar.gz files contain the basic LECS, MECS, PDS, and HPGSPC calibration files needed for data reduction.

The directory old contains old software and old basic calibration tar files.

To install SAXDAS 2.3.1

make a dir sax in the yoursite/lheasoft/src directory (sax should be at the same level of the asca, rosat and xte directories). If you have already such a directory, make sure to delete everything in it.
get in binary mode the file SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz
mv SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz in the ftools/sax directory
gunzip SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar.gz
tar xvf SAXDAS_x.x.x.tar
Run the configure script: ./configure
configure will check if you have a caldb (checking for the existence of the variable $CALDBHOME. If you have a caldb SAXDAS will be set in order to access the SAX LECS, MECS, PDS and HPGSPC calibration files via this method. If you do not have a caldb SAXDAS will be set to access the needed calibration files, stored as individual files, in a SAX-specific area under the FTOOLS tree (sax/data).
if configure successfully finished you should have all Makefiles ready to build SAXDAS. You may want to check the Makefile.ctrl to see if all settings are appropriate to your system.
Type make build. This should build all SAXDAS executables.
Type make install. This should install SAXDAS as a sub-package of FTOOLS (all executables and parameter files in the ftools/bin.host directory)
get in binary mode the files SAXLE(ME,PD,HP)caldb_x.x.x.tar.gz
put SAXLE(ME,PD,HP)caldb_x.x.x.tar.gz in the $FTOOLS directory
gunzip SAXLE(ME,PD,HP)caldb_x.x.x.tar.gz
tar xvf SAXLE(ME,PD,HP)caldb_x.x.x.tar This should unpack all the needed calibration files in the sax/data directory.
