TOPICS & RATIONALE

NuSTAR is a NASA Small Explorer (SMEX) mission with Italian participation, dedicated to imaging and spectroscopy in the 5-80 keV band. Scheduled for a launch in March 2012 NuSTAR will be the first focusing high energy X-ray astronomy mission to become operational, thus opening the hard X-ray sky to sensitive observations. NuSTAR will search for black holes across the Universe, map supernova explosions, and study the most extreme active galaxies.
